Hemorrhoids are rectal veins that are prolapsed and inflamed. Hemorrhoids originate from a group of veins present in the rectum known as the hemorrhoidal plexus. That is where the name hemorrhoids is derived. There are two groups of veins: internal veins and external veins.
There are also two types of hemorrhoids and they are classified according to there location. If the internal veins are affected then they are classified as internal hemorrhoids . If the external veins are the location of the problem then they are classified as external hemorrhoids.
The symptoms may be slightly different for the two types of hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids are many times asymptomatic. They usually tend to bleed mainly.
People with internal hemorrhoids may not manifest any symptoms. But they may be shocked by seeing blood in the toilet after a bowel movement. Sometimes large amounts of bright red blood is seen but many times just a streak of blood is seen on the stool.
Warning: This can be a symptom of a serious disease such as cancer, so always consult you doctor to determine the cause.
Signs and Symptoms present mostly in the external form of hemorrhoids are:
- Bleeding after bowel movement or noticed while wiping the anal area
- Pain and swelling to the point where it can make walking difficult
- Itching and irritation around the anal area
- Hemorrhoids protruding from your anus
- A Sensitive and painful lump near your anus
- Fecal Leakage
What Causes Hemorrhoids?
LIfe-style habits are usually the cause in the development of hemorrhoids. Some of these are:
1. Low amounts of fiber in the diet
2. Straining during a bowel movement
3. Obesity
4. Constipation
5. Lack of Exercise
But the thing is, you can prevent and improve hemorrhoids by modifying these life-style factors but many times you cannot correct them completely after they have developed. These measures are necessary to prevent hemorrhoids and improve them but will not cure them completely. If you are suffering from hemorrhoids you need to modify these factors but you also need extra help to get rid of hemorrhoids completely.
Treatments vary in conventional medicine and also in the alternative medical field. A diversity of suppositories, creams and ointments are in the market for treating hemorrhoids. But understand that these are only for relief of symptoms. They do not completely cure hemorrhoids!
Surgery can correct hemorrhoids but there are two problems that may happen. One that is very litle known is that even after surgery these Hemorrhoids can COME BACK!! And number two is that unless you have a great insurance plan the procedure is very expensive.
