Natural Skin Care Products
Posted by GuestW on Jun 18, 2009 in Beauty • No commentsThere are a number of facts you should know about sensitive skin care but first it is important to learn just what sensitive skin is. For most people the definition is quite clear when their skin becomes
hyper-sensitive to products they use, the atmosphere, anything they apply to their skin or even wear; the result of which is normally irritable skin that can even be swollen and red. This problem may affect you at any age and once it does you will probably have to start using sensitive skin care products specially formulated for this type of condition.
Skin care products that help with this condition differ as there can be many factors involved as it is not a one-glove-fits-all condition. One thing that is almost constant though is the way sensitive skin will almost always react badly to any type of detergent and any products where the formulation is chemical based.
But the damage starts generally beyond a defined threshold or tolerance level. For the unfortunate person who suffers with sensitive skin will have obvious signs of distress much sooner.
The difference with sensitive skin care to ordinary skin care products is the concentration of known irritants is kept to an absolute minimum or eliminated from the product completely. It may seem obvious, as most skin care products are formulated to help protect the skin, but only use products that are actually marked for sensitive skin use and if you are unsure, check the ingredients listing to see if there are any specific warnings you should be aware of.
Just to be sure, when you choose the products you require just buy the ones with the least number of additives and preservatives available.
Skin toners are also to be avoided as the active ingredient is alcohol and this will almost certainly irritate your already sensitive skin further.
Wear protective gloves when doing laundry or other chemical based cleaning and if you are allergic to rubber, you can wear cotton gloves below the rubber ones.
Before entering out into the sunlight, which can be another skin irritant, it is advisable to apply a formulated sunscreen that will not irritate the skin either.
This type of precaution is also relevant even if it isn’t sunny as the atmospheric pollution found almost everywhere now will also aggravate the skin and a suitable barrier cream or hypoallergenic moisturizer should help protect vulnerable skin.
You will also need to avoid soaps that aren’t soap-free and other cleansers that contain alcohol that you will clean your face with after being outdoors, just remember not to rub too hard as this too can cause redness.
Whenever makeup or cosmetics are used, try not to overuse or over wear them and only use makeup remover which will not cause skin irritation. Whilst there is a great deal to think about if you have a sensitive skin condition, it is a matter of getting into a routine and know what causes the irritation as this will save you time and distress.
